Rebuild for Mat and Steve
Donation protected
On September 7th, 2020, volunteer firefighters Mat Smith and Steve VanDyke responded to a wildland fire that started outside of Malden, WA. Little did they know that they would loose their home, shops, and possessions as they struggled to save the homes of others from a raging inferno. The Babb/Malden Fire destroyed nearly 18,000 acres and over 100 homes and buildings. Mat Smith and his family lost their home with all their posessions and their shop. Steve VanDyke and his family lost their shop, horse barn, vehicles and other possessions. We, the Rosalia Volunteer Firefighters Association, are looking to raise funds to help them rebuild their home, shops and purchase new possessions after the devastating Babb/Malden Fire. The funds raised will be split 50/50 between the Smith and VanDyke families. Please help us to help these two families who give so much to our community. Both Mat and Steve are active volunteer firefighters and EMTs with Whitman County Fire District #7 in Rosalia and serve the communities of Malden, Rosalia, Pine City, St. John and Oakesdale with passion. Mat and Steve both live in Malden, WA.
My name is Laura Lautenslager. I have been friends with Mat and Steve and served alongside them on the fire department since 2010. I will be withdrawing the funds to a personal bank account, and the cash will be presented to Mat and Steve and their families by myself and members of the department at our fire station.
