Hello everyone, my name is Karleen Curtis-Campbell and I grew up in Black River, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica which has been devastated by Melissa, one of the most destructive hurricanes in recorded history.

Our beloved town, rich in history, culture, and community, has been completely decimated by this storm. Homes and have been washed away and families who once lived in peace and security are now left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

As of December 14th, 2025 many residents in my hometown and community are still living in makeshift shelters with limited access to food, clean water, electricity, and medical support.

This fundraiser will provide much needed relief to my friends, family and neighbors affected in Black River. The funds from this fundraiser will be transferred as needed to an account with Bank of America allowing funds to be withdrawn in Jamaica as needed.

Even now after 38 days after Hurricane Melissa, Black River still has no power and many residents face difficulty to simply charge their mobile phones. Our focus is on providing solar powered power banks that enable the charging mobile phones and provide a source of light in the nighttime. Moreover my friends and family are in dire need of personal items such as towels, wash cloths, toothpaste, soap and disinfectants to clean their ruined homes.

As time goes on the needs of the people affected will morph from immediate critical needs to clearing, repairing and rebuilding projects which will involve purchasing lumber, cement, rebar and plumbing materials.

In times like these, we are reminded that community is not defined by distance, but by heart. The world is uncertain and difficult for many, and I understand the weight everyone is carrying right now. But if we do not stand together for Black River, then who will?

This is more than recovery. This is rebuilding a community, restoring dignity, and reminding our people that they are not alone.
