Rebekah’s Cancer Recovery

Hello all,
My wife Rebekah has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). At this point we don’t know what stage it’s at but will post updates as we go along.
She got a sinus infection about 5 weeks ago, and it progressed into other symptoms. She felt some bumps protruding from her neck and further visits to Urgent Care and then multiple ER visits and overnight hospital stays have concluded that there was much more going on.
They found further swelling of the lymph nodes in her upper chest and some in her abdomen.
They further tested with multiple CT scans and also a biopsy of one of the lymph nodes in her neck.
The test for that has come back positive for Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Before this emergency we were going through Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace” and were on Baby Step # 2, which is paying off all debt (besides your mortgage if you have one, which we don’t). We have paused this plan as Dave recommends to deal with our life emergency. Because we don’t yet have our fully funded emergency fund in place yet (this is Baby Step # 3 for the Ramsey plan), we are seeking financial help in order to be able to pay for medical costs, bills, food, etc. that might arise throughout this journey to recovery.
I (Bobby, Rebekah’s husband) will be working as much as possible at my job for UPS while friends and family help care for Rebekah and Judah. However, if I need to be home with Rebekah, I will be. This could possibly be a loss of partial income for myself but UPS has great job security as I am part of a union and they have procedures in place for me to take a leave of absence. I am able to get Paid Family Leave from NYS as supplemental income as well as possible NYS Disability for Rebekah, however this is simply not enough for us to live off of (NYS Family Leave pays only about 50% of each paycheck & Disability only pays up to $170 per week) and especially during this time with increasing costs of medical care for Rebekah.
I might also mention we have a 17 month old son named Judah. He is the light in this storm for both Rebekah and I. We do have many friends and family able to help take care of our son but I might need to be home more often to care for his needs so Rebekah can rest and recover.
If you have ever met and/or know Rebekah, you know that she is one the most selfless people. If anyone deserves support, it’s her. She is a fighter and will do anything she needs to do to be healed. She remains positive and is trusting the Lord for His healing and strength.
More important than your monetary gift, we’d ask that you pray for us: “13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.” James 5:13–18
We are still going to be regularly giving to our amazing church “Northridge Rochester” and we are supporting a young man through “World Vision” named Sunday and we will continue to do so. We are humbled by asking for help and would ask to do so not out of reluctancy or compulsion: “7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
The amount listed could provide support for our family from 6 Months-1 Year. We do not know how long this journey will be and we thank you for your generosity!
