On August 31, 2017  around noon, I was hit by a car while riding my bike to the library. I was wearing a helment, riding my bike next to the curb, in the parking area, next to the bike lane (it goes: parking, bike lane, traffic lane) The car was a sliver hatchback that turned wide, and didn't stop.

While I lay crying in the street, around the corner from my house, 2 cars looked but didn't stop to help me. It wasn't until I started screaming for help that people came to my aid. Once at the hospital, after x-rays and a CT scan were completed on my foot and ankle, it was determined that I had a fractue of my calcaneous, the heel of my right foot.  This means no walking, no hiking, no driving, no swiming, no working for six to eight weeks, possibly longer.

I work for the area park and recreaction department in disability/accesibility services with disabled children. The irony of this incident is I was on my way to the library to pick up some music one of my students loves. Additionally I was to start working as a preschool teacher, also with park/rec, during the school year. Beacause of the activity levels both of my positions require I cannot work until I can bear weight again on my right foot.  I work part-time, and am contracted to work only 29 hours a week. I pay for my medical insurance out of pocket. My husband works, a lot, but my income ensures we don't have to worry about money.

The Beaverton Police department have no leads. They issued the following press release the evening of the incident:

On top of all this, I have multiple scolorsis, it's supposed to be over a 100 degrees this week, and the work it takes for me to use crutches makes me exhausted, and hot to the point I want to puke.

The money raised will go to help pay household bills: food, my car payment, my student loan payment, hiring a maid to do the housework I can't currently do, and incedentals.

Everyone is hoping to find the person that did this to me. This is a felony hit-and-run. The person responsible will be sued for pain and suffering, including medical bills. My wonderful friends and family help out as much as they can, but they can't take care of me 24/7

Please donate what you can. Please share with your friends and family. If you see someone who may be in distress, ask. Don't look the other way.

Thank you,

Rebecca
