Working as a wildlife and exotic animal veterinarian at the Wildlife Waystation is a privilege and a challenge! I am grateful every day to be able to help improve the lives and comfort of our incredible animal residents alongside my fantastic work family. I believe in the altruistic nature of our sanctuary and am proud of the work we are doing to build our educational programs, update our facilities, and continue to provide top-notch care for our 450+ animals and birds.
For Mia the leopard who had uterine cancer. For Totem the coatimundi who has endocrine disease. For Timely the chimpanzee who is epileptic. For Bubba the baboon who is a diabetic. For Zulu the zebra who has arthritis in his legs. For my darling Gulliver the hyena who has heart failure. My children are inspired by my work, and I hope to model for them how even small steps can make a big difference in the world around us.
So I am taking many many steps on March 18th when I run the Los Angeles Marathon! I hope to raise money to build new bear and large carnivore crates for some of our biggest of the big cats, Siberian tigers and big African lions. Our crates - used for evacuation, transport, and treatment - are aging, heavy and need to be replaced. We are lucky to have friends in the rescue field who are able to fabricate magnificent new lightweight crates; these crates could be staged permanently in our facility for the animals to learn to load so that they can be transported with little stress and without anesthesia.
I hope to raise enough money to build ten of these large crates. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to this project. Please make a donation and put some wind beneath my wings! Thank you very much for your support.
