Rebecca has been in the hospital in Tifton for nearly 3 weeks. In the previous months, Rebecca had began to have trouble walking. She couldn't make it through Wal-Mart, climb up steps, or step up on a curb. She fell 3 times before coming to Tift Regional. She was admitted through the ER with severe leg pain and weakness and a CT of her low back was done. It showed severe spinal stenosis at L4-L5. She had a MRI of herlow back that also confirmed this and showed a bulging disc. She was put on strict bedrest awaiting a decision on surgery. During this time, her blood pressure became orthistatic, meaning it bottoms out whenever She stands up. She had a nerve conduction study that showed severe diabetic neuropathy. The spine doctor said that she was not a candidate for surgery because of the location of the bulging disc, her diabetes, and the fact that he didn't believe that her leg pain and weakness was caused from the spinal stenosis. She was advised to get a 2nd opinion about this which will be done on an outpatient basis. However that can’t be done as long as she can’t be discharged From the hospital. Apparently in one of her falls, she actually fractured her left distal tibia. She is now havinh to wear a moon boot which prevents walking therapy. She was already unsteady on her feet so the moon boot makes it even more difficult to walk. Once again, her blood pressure has become orthistatic. Doctors say that it isn't safe for her to be discharged home. She needs further rehab which insurance isn't wanting to pay for. During all this, She was released from my job at Enviro-Log after almost 11 years. She was told she’s being let go due to not being able to provide a “return to work” date. Her insurance is now only good until the end of May. After that, there will be no way to pay for medicine or any other bills. Drs have mentioned filing for disability but as everyone knows, that can take months and months. She can't file an unemployment claim unless Shes actively seeking employment and able to go to work....and according to doctors, that’s not likely. Currently she does not qualify for Medicaid because Shes not illegal, have a child under the age of 19, or have been deemed disabled. Disbility waits on Medicaid and Medicaid waits on disability. Time is running out and the clock is ticking for her. She just wants to be herself again, but that will probably never happen.
