Rebecca King

My name is Melanie and I’ve created this GoFundMe page for my dear friend and colleague, Rebecca King and her family.  Presently, Rebecca is a 1st grade teacher at Krystal School in Hesperia, California.  On July 5th, 2018, she went in to have a tumor removed and found out 5 days later that the growth was cancerous.  Rebecca, who just celebrated her 31st birthday, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The beginning of our school year started on Monday, August 13th, 2018.  Due to her extreme, debilitating pain and fatigue, Rebecca wasn’t there to meet her new students on their first day of school, however she was able to work a few days before her second 8-hour chemotherapy treatment.  Rebecca (or Mrs. King, to so many students!) has since received three chemotherapy treatments, with three more to go! The chemo treatments left her with horrible side effects, nausea, fatigue, pain, leg cramps, gum and tooth pain, heartburn, hair loss, and with all of that, depression.  With each passing treatment, her recovery comes with unexpected and new negative consequences.  Today, she has shared with me that she won’t be working this week, due to continued shortness of breath and pain.

At this time, Rebecca is home resting while her husband, Dustin, is caring for her every need, as well as looking after Hudson and Kora, their two young children.

Rebecca will continue chemotherapy treatments every three weeks until the end of November 2018. We are hoping and praying that she will then be in a transitional period of remission.  Currently, Dustin and Rebecca are driving 80 miles (round trip) to her chemotherapy, in addition to other appointments, such as bone marrow testing, PET & CAT-scans, cardiac testing, and other medical appointments.

At this time, Rebecca works as a teacher (on those days where she doesn’t have debilitating pain and discomfort). Those work days have been few and far between, but Rebecca shares that coming to her classroom and working with her students is her ‘happy place,’ and she and her family also need her income.  With her husband, Dustin, being home to care for Rebecca, their need for financial support is critical as they face these coming months.

I hope you will consider supporting Rebecca & her family through their time of need.  Your financial assistance will help their burdens, big & small… from their mortgage & utilities, to their transportation & other expenses during this critical, financially devastating time.

Lastly, I’d like to share that I’ve set this GoFundMe account up because I love and admire Mrs. Rebecca King.  She is one of the hardest working people I have ever met!  She loves her family and loves her students with her whole heart.  She challenges herself with whatever comes her way.  The challenge now is to get through this season of her life and return to work, full time, by January, 2019.

Thank you so much for any help that you can give to the King Family in their critical time of need.
