On February 19th, Becky was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. She carries three positive hormones (ER, PR and HER2) which feed the cancer. The good news is her BRACA is negative. However, she is looking at a bilateral mastectomy by the end of March and reconstruction to follow. Tentatively, her treatment could last a year or longer.
After being laid-off last September, Becky had been working part-time in the cafeteria at Greenfield Exempted Village Schools and ironically, this diagnosis news came on the same day she started her new job at Wingate Packaging in WCH. She has continued to work between her many doctors visits preparing for surgery. There is uncertainty about her employment status following surgery, as she is looking at months of post-op care and treatments including chemo and radiation.
She has been married for 24 years to her husband Micheal and has two teenage children, Zeke and Zoei.
Although she has insurance through Michael’s employer, their deductibles are tremendous. The funds raised will help to cover household, medical and travel expenses on her long road to recovery.
