Rebecca and Gavin

On Nov 28th, our friend Rebecca Jamin tragically and unexpectedly lost her son Gavin to cancer. Gavin was an amazing, happy and loving 14 year old who whole-heartedly adored his mom, had a positive attitude toward life, enjoyed music (played the trombone and tuba) and was described by his classmates as friendly, kind, funny and always up for trying new things.
He was an active, happy, joyful grade 9 student at Reynolds Secondary and had previously attended Cedar Hill Middle and Doncaster Elementary. The attached black and white photo is from his grade 8 graduation at Cedar Hill- what a beautiful and moving portrait. The second photo captures the love Gavin had for babies as he poses smiling ear to ear with his baby cousin taken last year.
We got to know Rebecca from volunteering together on the Cedar Hill PAC Executive where she was the Treasurer for many years and lent her expertise and time to countless fundraising efforts. It has been a pleasure to get to know her and Gavin over these years and share our experiences and laughter together.
It is hard to know how to help when one hears the sorrowful news of a friend's loss, but maybe easing the financial pressure of taking time off work and mounting household bills is something we can do to show our support and compassion as a community and how our hearts go out to Rebecca and her family.
