Reasons to be Pretty-Irish Premiere

Who are we when all the cards are on the table? When excuses and distractions lose their power, what will we have to show? Are we pretty enough? Greg’s ex, Steph reminds him that words matter. His married friends Kent and Carly, expecting an unexpected baby, remind him of the feelings at stake. They walk individually togther through life, not listening to each other. Are they living up to their own expectations? Or just the discontent of beauty? “Because we all have a different perception about what real beauty is. Isn’t that funny?”

We are excited to debut the Irish premiere of the critically acclaimed play, Reasons to be Pretty by Neil LaBute!

Who We Are
We investigate the Untold Wants - the driving force of the human experience -through the examination of individual perspectives. With the belief that the arts can open eyes and make us feel, we raise our unique voices toward the expression of universal truths.

By collaborating with emerging, energetic artists and theatremakers, as well as engaging the wisdom of versed practitioners, we will illuminate these truths. We are going back to the roots. A place w individual ideas have a common ground, putting on productions to which hat anyone can relate, no matter the style or type of theatre. Allowing the audience to collectively share a one of a kind world. Letting them be moved and entertained. Life is a felt experience, asking us to stop and pay attention. We want to provide the space where that can happen.

The company's founders are Jessica Aquila Cymerman and Jack O'Dowd. Jessica is from Los Angeles, and Jack is from Galway in Ireland. They met while studying their masters in theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

How We Will Allocate the Funds
This money will all go into getting the show together and the quality of the production. It will be used to pay for the rights to the text, the venue, the cost of equipment, publicity and the people involved. We firmly believe as a company that the production quality is paramount, and strive to work with dedicated, passionate artists, and are avid about making sure all who come into the company are financially compensated in some small way.

Why This Means So Much to Us
We are working to uphold the importance of bringing new and dynamic voices to the stage. LaBute's work is close to our hearts. His pieces examine and hold up a mirror to specific facets of society in a natural and relatable way. It is exciting to us to be able to expose Dublin and greater Irish audiences to the energy and topical messages of beauty and self-worth in this coming of age story, who's unusual approach to broaching those subjects we hope will be moving and entertaining.

This is a show we have wanted to produce for a long time, and especially in Ireland. This will jumpstart opening the door to exploring more investigative and important pieces of theatre with the support of audience interpretation and participation in these worlds we will continue to build. If we were to reach our goal we would be eternally thankful!!
