Making access to education a reality for girls

My name is Stephanie and I am supporting Actionaid Kenya’s purchase of 25 beds and mattresses for Gongodinyi Primary School in Kishushe, Kenya while walking the Camino Portugues.  I have been a child sponsor with ActionAid Ireland for more than 21 years and all funds raised will be distributed through ActionAid Ireland a charity regulated in Ireland. It will take me 25 walks and 640km from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela. Each bed costs €200 and my goal is to raise the funds for the purchase of one bed each day that I walk.  The hardships of poverty and lack of water has exposed girls to child marriages, defilement, incest, domestic violence and neglect, all conspiring to deny girls access to education. To reverse this trend Actionaid Kenya is working with the community of Kishushe to raise awareness for girls and women on their rights and importance of education to girls. Keeping the girls in school is key to guarantee their safety and good learning outcomes as it gives girls the opportunity to have non-interrupted studies during the week while protecting them from child labour. Girl’s forums have been created to provide a safe space for girls to discuss and draw solutions to their own problems.  Please help me to support making access to education a reality for girls as I walk, so they can have the opportunity of thriving and hope for a better future.
