San Diego Ready Meals Fund

As the crisis has advanced tremendously, we have pivoted our business to focus on serving those on the frontlines combatting COVID-19.

For every dollar raised we are matching 100%

Here’s the problem:

We have noticed an uptick in orders from nurses and doctors in the ICU that are unable to leave their posts. These workers have quickly become our most frequent customers, depending on our safe and ready meals to get them through another shift while they are being asked to stay away from grocery stores and other food outlets to prevent the potential spread of COVID 19.

Likewise, we’ve also spoken with caregivers and medical professionals at assisted living homes, who have not been able to leave their workplace to see their families, in order to safeguard those at greatest risk and who are the stronghold of our community—our seniors. We are trying to give a small sense of normalcy throughout this difficult time.

How we’re solving it:

In response to the demand for healthy and fresh meals, we have partnered with The Kavod Fund to form the “San Diego Ready Meals Fund” for our most affected. For every dollar donated, Spitfire and Head Lettuce will match that amount and use your donation to build meals for our friends on the front line.

Your donation will support our efforts to provide healthful grain and protein bowls as well as salads from our La Jolla-based restaurants Spitfire Tacos and Head Lettuce.

Our first two drops are scheduled for Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and AvantGarde La Jolla Assisted Living Center.

Our hope is to provide some comfort to those who are away from their families, at-risk, and have summoned great courage to continue to do their jobs through the delivery of safely prepared, fresh food as a very small token of our gratitude. We are maintaining sanitary standards and packaging our food with the utmost care to protect our workers during this difficult time.

A $5 donation will provide a meal to someone in need, imagine what we can do when we meet or surpass our goal of $50,000. The San Diego Ready Meals program is planned to last at minimum through Easter Sunday and will continue on for as long as this service is needed.

If you or a loved one know of hospitals, assisted living centers and other deserving groups in need, please let us know and we will add them to our list of recipients!

Thank you for your support.
