Sharing A Love of Reading

Tax deductible
My name is Jacob and I am in 7th grade. As part of my Bar Mitzvah I am completing a Mitzvah project that helps support my community.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia in kindergarten.  I had to work extra hard to keep up with my peers in school. I didn’t realize how smart I actually was and I didn't think I liked reading. In sixth grade, my school introduced me to a program called Learning Ally that allowed me to read any book I wanted - showing me how much I loved reading and even helped me to do better in school.

For my project, I am raising money to purchase a license of Learning Ally for Cypress Academy, a charter school in New Orleans. My hope is to help other students with dyslexia (and language learning differences) to learn to love reading and be able to do it on their own.

Learning Ally is an organization that works to make sure that all people have equal opportunities to learn.
Their mission is to promote personal achievement when access and reading are barriers to learning by advancing the use of accessible and effective educational solutions.
