A Medically Safe Home for Katie

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ronda. I am the blessed Mom of this remarkable woman.  Katie is fun, caring, compassionate and very intelligent.  She sings beautifully, plays the guitar, writes music, and is very artsy and creative.  She loved to cook and was an excellent BC certified K-12 teacher with a specialty in High School English

She has been on disability since 2004 after a car accident but she started having migraines at 8-9 years old.  Neurologists, gastroenterologists, immunologists, in Canada and the US have diagnosed her with refractory migraines, refractory gastroparesis, Primary Immune Deficiency disease requiring a blood product to prevent infections, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and Mast Cell Activation Disorder.

Her most helpless and despairing symptoms are from the horrible migraines and headaches that aren’t treatable.

What triggers these migraines?  Literally, the world.  She has food and environmental sensitivities to almost everything.  Within minutes of an exposure, taking care of her basic needs can become impossible. To date, Katie is almost 36, 5 ft. 5 inches and 84lbs.

All of her specialists have told Katie that the only hope they could offer was to stay away from exposures to triggers and use whatever medications help mitigate and manage symptoms.

Her medications are pharmaceutically compounded, in their purest form, so they don’t give Katie migraines.  They can only be administered intravenously because oral medications are not tolerated. Since her muscles deteriorated from having to self-administer over 12 shots a day, her specialist put in a PICC line for her to receive crucial medications.

This has all been very tragic after so many years of already being disabled and struggling to care for herself.

Katie can’t live or function normally in the world, in order to stay away from all her triggers.  She has to be, for the most part, isolated.

This is where her insurmountable problem lies. At the end of March 2018, Katie got sepsis. At the same time, she had to vacate her tolerated safe rental because the house sold. The combination of outpatient IV antibiotic treatments making her more sensitive than she has ever been and losing her home, has made her homeless.  She has lived in her 1995 Ford Ranger truck ever since.  Between fragrances, mold, pesticides and new renovations gassing off, she can’t find a place to live.

Katie has grit and determination like I have never seen. She has advocated for herself financially and has been barely able to live month to month with no savings.

Now she needs others' help in every way!!  Her 1995 truck desperately needs replaced with a newer one.  Now that she is living in her truck, she has to drive all the way south for the winter and back up to Canada when it’s warmer.  A reliable vehicle is a crucial need for a woman, on her own, sick and driving those distances.

Another huge need is for Katie not to be homeless, safe in a home that is fragrance and chemical free that will always be hers. There are custom builders that make tiny homes out of metal and glass that would be perfectly safe for Katie and enable her to thrive the best she can.

Having a reliable vehicle and a place to call home would be a wonderful dream come true for Katie and her family.  As a mother, it would bring me such peace of mind over her physical safety.

Katie was already so limited in what she could do and not having a safe place to live limit her completely.  Right now, she is trying to survive and find safe places to park her truck.

We are hoping to raise enough money to have a custom tiny home built to safely and comfortably house Katie and we need your help.
