Our first baby granddaughter came into this world on August 4th, and was beautiful and healthy. Or so we thought.
She began to have complications. The hospital staff had to help her breathe, and give her oxygen right at first, and her temperature and blood sugars were too low. We thought they had that under control, and she was finally brought in to be with her mommy and daddy. A few hours later, their world started to crumble. Our sweet Lillian started having seizures. She was rushed to the NICU and has been there ever since.
Through a series of tests, they have found that her precious brain was deprived of oxygen and had been swelling. Each day she is getting stronger, but they have a long road ahead of them. She is now controlling her own body temperature, and is keeping control of her breathing. They have been able to control her seizures with medicine, which she will have to be on for a little while.
Her liver was damaged as well, but the doctors say that she will be able to recover that. She will be in the hospital for a bit and, when home, she will have to be monitored closely and will be seeing several doctors every few weeks.
The funds we raise here will help offset the cost of the hospital stay, the medicines she will need, and help cover costs so mommy can be home for as long as possible with Lillian before having to go back to work. We thank you, as two grateful and blessed grandparents, for your support of this little family.
