Ray's Wheelchair Fund

My name is Ray Mangogna. I am 58 years old and I live in a rehabilitation nursing home in Suffolk County. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 12 years ago and my mobility has deteriorated. I have limited movement except for some in my arms and slightly in my fingers, which allows me to use a motorized wheelchair. I am raising money to get a part for my wheelchair. The part that needs to be replaced is over $500.


For anyone who knew me knows what a hard worker I was and how well I took care of my family. Being in a wheelchair and having to be so dependent on others, both physically and financially has been very difficult. Having to depend on them is not in my nature. That hard working part of me is what drives me to be an active part of the nursing home community. I am the president of the residents and I arrange for day trips and activities to keep everyone as positive and active as possible. One of the biggest reasons I am able to take on this important role is the independence and mobility I have because of my wheelchair.

 

As some of you may know I have a beautiful grandson Mason. Most people look at me and feel bad for me because I need a wheelchair to get around but to my 16-month-old grandson I am a pretty cool Grandpa. We like to race, me in my wheelchair and Mason in his Batman walker. Without this part for my wheelchair I can’t play with my grandson, which is my favorite thing in the world to do.
