Let's build a cultural center in rural Uganda

The Cultural Community Center Toonda (from Swahili “to create”) offers local people the opportunity to meet, to try out, to exchange art and culture in the rural environment of Western Uganda. It is a place for an open exchange of ideas, for creative processes and cooperation between people of different cultures and roots.
Help us make it happen!
Toonda is to become an oasis of artistic expression, cultural exchange and a place to come together. For this, we urgently need your help. Whether it's a small or large donation, we and especially the neighbourhood of the village of Kyakataama would be happy about any support to make our dream come true!
Donations are needed to:
- construct a multifunctional theater stage for performances, workshops and presentations
- build toilets and a kitchen area
- establish water supply and a solar power system
- buy tables, chairs, shelves, cupboards
- provide materials to community groups for upcoming projects like painting, music, studying and intercultural exchange
After finishing the construction of the Cultural Community Center it will be handed over to the people of the neighborhood.
Currently we are planning a festival in memory of Jonas Amooti this summer, if COVID-19 allows it. Some of you might wonder why in memory of Jonas. It was our life-long dream to support the neighborhood with an art related community center, but sadly he passed away in 2019. Therefore I would like to open the Center in memory of him. To have his spirit remain present forever.

Uganda is in lockdown for 42 days since June 19th. Construction sides are allowed to proceed. So we're still working on our Cultural Comunity Center. It's a sign of hope in the village. That there is something good coming after a strict hard lockdown. Please support us!
