RARICAnow! Lgbtiq+ Refugees & newcomers community

Raricanow is a non profit organisation with a soul aim of Promoting Human Rights for all LGBTIQ+ refugees in Canada and to raise awareness about the current gaps in service and struggles for this unique population.
Its started in 2017 to address the pending issues about the refugees and newcomers queer community that are left untouched and ignored, with hopes that one day all will be well. That every single life matter regardless of the differences.

The horrific story below is the reason why organizations like RARICA Now! are integral for refugee lives:

The death of Camilla trans woman a refugee who was deported from USA back to salvador and she was killed

Raricanow is run by a group of volunteers who work for betterment of others, Raricanow members help LGBTQI+ refugees to find the support they need to navigate the asylum process, and connect them with other supportive networks like finding safe housing, advocating for policy changes, and  empowering refugees to connect with one another to build a safe community space for them.

There is a high rate of misunderstanding due to lack of cultural sensitivity, and a heavy rate of isolation among this population. Looking to belong which belonging to multiple minority groups can result in intersectional invisibility. In addition many refugees struggle with trust due to their lived experience , and most often the public and service providers are not familiar with how to handle this vulnerable population.

Raricanow provides a supportive, empowering and safe space for LGBTQI+ refugees and newcomers in Edmonton Alberta and as well networking with others internationally to mobilize. LGBTQI+ refugees and newcomers have the opportunity to access the bi-weekly gathering, put on my Raricanow. It can be really very helpful to refugees to remind them that they are not alone and that they have a chosen family and place where their voices will be heard, respected and not misinterpreted. Through these bi-weekly gatherings and other events put on by Raricanow, strive to provide ongoing support and foster resiliency by celebrating our stories, empowering ourselves, building a strong community, and holding a space for us to learn. We encourage and partner with a lot of support networks to advocate for proper treatment of LGBTQI+ refugees in sectors such as housing, healthcare and education.

The money raised will be put towards food, vendor spaces and booths to spread awareness, accessibility such as bus passes, honorariums for the refugees facilitating, buying empowerment materials that will help us do craft and art work,  childcare, office materials, and also we recognize that while LGBTQI+ refugees face a lot of isolation and stigma, this funding will also help in running our refugee awareness and intercultural projects where refugees share their stories through music, dance and drama, outreach, publicity, and the screening of our documentary screening (A long Road to Peace).

We are the voice to the voiceless, the pillar for the ones that have been weak and the star that shines for those in the dark.  We see through change.
Any support given to us will highly be appreciated. If you are interested in supporting us further with sponsorship, volunteering or other advocacy work, please contact us through the following channels:
