Student Relief Trip to Puerto Rico

In September 2017, Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican emergency management agency reported that Hurricane Maria left 100% of the island without power. The mayor of San Juan, Carmen Cruz, reported that 3.5 million people could be without power for 4-6 months. With much of the country not having access to clean water, and damage costs reaching up to 95 million dollars, Ranson Middle School decided to take action.
Ranson IB Middle school plans to take 20 high achieving scholars to San Juan, Puerto Rico in June 2018 for five days with emergency supplies we collect throughout the school year. Supplies include school supplies, first aid supplies, water, and clothing. Our project addresses the humanitarian and infrastructure needs of Puerto Rico after the hurricane. Our scholars will utilize and practice 21st century skills such as collaboration and communication. We will be partnering with the Ramey School in Puerto Rico to connect us with other schools in need.
Donations from this GoFundMe will cover the cost of students' plane tickets to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Our scholars will also be fundraising themselves to cover as much of their personal costs as possible. With your help, our students will experience new culture, expand their horizons by engaging in a community different from their own, and see how much their efforts can impact Puerto Rican students affected by the hurricane.
