Rankin Family - eSight Eyeware

Donation protected
This family has been deeply impacted by visual impairment, having 3 children with Hereditary Optic Atrophy NYD.

Two of these children recently had the opportunity to try on eSight eyewear at W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind and the results were truly amazing.
Ian Rankin: Age 25
Visual Acuity 20/200 (legally blind)

Ian completed the Peer Mentorship Program in High School, as well as the Leadership Program at W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind’s short-term programs. He graduated from St. Clair College with a Border Services Diploma.

Ian previously volunteered with NET Ministries Canada, traveling with a team of young men and women from Coast to Coast and facilitating music programs for youth and is currently volunteering with Pure-Witness Canada in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Ian enjoys running and golf.  He plays bass guitar, piano and percussion as well as sings.

Tessa Rankin:  Age 16
Visual Acuity 20/180

Tessa is a grade 11 student and doing well.  She is presently enrolled at W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind earning her High School diploma.

The family’s hope is that she would be able to use eSight to fill in the learning gaps she currently experiences having low vision in a classroom setting.  They want to provide her with the tools to be strong and ready for University and the work world.

Tessa loves to canoe and watch hockey and really enjoys her vocal class.

Francis Rankin: Age 10
Visual Acuity 20/400 (legally blind)

Francis is in grade 3 and is really struggling with reading.  The family’s hope is that he would be able to use eSight to make reading less difficult for him.  Francis presently is enrolled at W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind and is learning to read Braille.

Francis loves to sing and he is learning the Bodhran – an Irish Drum.  An avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Francis would love to be able to “see” his favorite team pass the puck and score goals.

We are aiming to raise enough to purchase two pairs of glasses. but are hoping to eventually raise enough to purchase three.

Every little bit helps, and thank you all for your generosity!
