The system is supposed to be just but is definitely unjust. I have been punished, tormented, and antagonized because I stood up for what's right. But if I had to do it again. I would.

I need to let you all know that this transition from prison is going to take me some time. Three years and eight months may not seem long, but my mind is still imprisoned, unfortunately.


As many of you may know I come from a very troubled life. My early childhood experiences raised me into a young man who stole, robbed, abused, and even committed acts of domestic violence. I have no excuses for my actions, only my desire to continue my path towards being a better person.

While my life has been a journey of self-improvement and prison gave me a lot of time to grow, I know I need more time to deal with my life before prison, and some of the horrible things I endured in behind the wall.

I am not gone, but I want you all to know I still have more work to do. People call me a hero, but I’m really just a person who did the right thing. Just like so many of you are today.

I just want to thank all my supporters because you were here battling for and with me. All your letters, petitions, calling, emailing, donations, and just being here for me. I thank you wholeheartedly, you guys gave me the strength to continue on.

I want to thank WeCopwatch so much for taking me in when no one else would, for holding me accountable for my actions when others turned their back on me, and for helping show me my path into a life of public service.

I want to especially thank my Fiancé Deja for being my rock, my heart, my soul. These past six years would have broken most, but you kept me strong and helped turn me into a better man.

For the time being, I want you all to know I need to continue to get better. How can I help others when I still have to address my own issues.

I commend everyone who is struggling to make the world a better place. Keep fighting. I will be back when I feel I have dealt with both my issues and righted my wrongs in life so that I can have a stronger foundation to give back long into the future.

Deja will keep ya’ll update on this page, but for now, I am asking for the continued space to continue on work on myself.

Because of the pressure campaign from all of you, we finally have Ramsey Orta home early. We can’t thank all of you enough. 

Who created "The Ramsey Orta Welcome Home Fund?"
It was created and organized by WeCopwatch and is the only online fundraiser for Ramsey Orta. 

Where is the money going?
All donations will go to Ramsey. The majority of the funds will be placed in a trust to provide him and his family much-needed financial security in the coming years. Other portions will help pay for the immediate--and significant--expenses of returning to civilian life after four years in prison. Expenses include: housing, counseling, and general living expenses such as food and utilities. 

Why is the "Coming Home Fund" important?
While the murderer of Eric Garner walked free, Ramsey Orta spent four years in state prisons in upstate New York.


Ramsey has literally lost years of his life for doing the right thing. Without Ramsey, many of you would have never heard about Eric Garner. Ramsey is a passionate young man determined to do right in this world. He deserves so much, yet he has lost everything.


This Gofundme has been built to ensure that Ramsey has some deserved security upon his release from Prison. The least we can do is honor his bravery and sacrifice by getting him whole again.  WeCopwatch has created this fund, it’s Ramsey-approved and 100% of the proceeds go to Ramsey.
