Ramovic Children Fund

Dear Friends, 

Last week, after a long and painful battle with cancer my dear cousin, Jasmina Ramović (née Alić), succumbed to the disease in Montenegro at the age of 49.  As was her nature, she fought cancer courageously, never seeking pity despite having gone through two excruciating rounds of chemotherapy. 

Jasmina was the type of person who would often offer words of support and strength to those around her who struggled with her illness. Jasmina, after all, was a schoolteacher. The lessons she taught were not confined to only her students nor the classroom.  There were life lessons that she imparted to us all. Those who knew her are blessed to keep those lessons and memories of her for a lifetime. 

My cousin was not only a very important member of her family and the extended family but of an entire community. Her strength and positive demeanor exuded throughout her life despite losing her father while at college and her husband, Sabrija, in 2011. They, too, suffered from cancer’s deadly consequence.  

Jasmina and Sabrija left behind two children. Mustafa turned 18 this year and Adem is 9 years old. Left without both parents much too young, we are raising funds to assist these boys with some of the basic financial needs they are sure to have as they grow older: Clothes, books, tuition, school supplies and other essentials that parents normally provide for their children at that age.  

Because the boys will likely need help for some time, a bank account has been established by their uncles in Montenegro at Erste Bank. Any funds raised via Go Fund Me or direct donations will be directly deposited into an account which will be controlled by their two uncles and will go strictly towards the essential needs of the children. 

For those of you who prefer to give a cash donation, you may do so leaving funds with Bećo Kalamperović at the Rumija Cultural Center on Thursday and Friday evenings. If you prefer to give a donation by check, you may do so by making them out to me and I will be sure to make the deposits to the account of the boys, free of any bank fees.
