Ramona Córdova - Artist project fund

Donation protected
Hi

I am trying to raise funds for my new music project.  I'm hoping it will be a sort of interactive sound and light installation.

Why should you donate ?
There are so many other imperative causes in need of support and funding right now, i can't possibly tell you why you should donate to me - - i just have to ask.

The work that i do for my own projects at times involves researching and discovering new insights, perspectives, and information.  I feel like i'm on the verge of a new discovery and i hope that i will soon find a place where i can apply the immense wealth of knowledge & experience, ingenuity, care and communication skills that i possess to earn enough money to fund my projects.  For now, i still need help.

Below is a video i put together from different stages i have captured during the discovery period of this current project.  It is a sort of mosaic of 4 different SKETCHES of music that came from using only plastic bottles, plastic twine, metal cups, bamboo chopsticks and me.  I use looping, delay (echo) and pitch modulation.

Thank you for your time,

Ramona Córdova

I N F O R M A T I O N ::

If you are interested - Here is a draft i have been working on to articulate what this project is about - Intended to be presented as Artist Residency Proposal.

:: Working Title / Theme ::

Diverting the ego - Through the visual image of sound - What unites us...?

(Currently Open Ended) Project Proposal - - with a Solid Plan B

:: The Catalysts ::

I am carefully selecting electronics, recording tools, and signal processors, which are either 'basic' in their function (i.e. their function occurs as part of Natural phenomena) or their function is attainable by a collective of more than one person, without the use of electronics.  These 'basic' electronic tools are Loop, Echo (Delay), and Pitch shifting (Transposition).

With these catalysts we will be able to share to the public demonstrative live performances inside and around a visual sound installation primarily using plastic bottles, plastic (polypropylene) twine, metal cups made from chromium, bamboo chopsticks, and the human voice.

:: What it is / How it works ::

Polypropylene twine is strung from a point A to a point B.

When a partially filled plastic water bottle is hung from the string by a Karabiner, the Karabiner serves as a moveable fret, dividing the string into segments at a musical interval.

When multiple plastic bottles are hung in the same fashion, at different points on the same string, the string becomes divided into multiple segments of musical intervals.  These lengths of fret and their corresponding notes are moveable, since the bottles and Karabiner are able to be slidden to different points along the string.  When multiple strings, with multiple bottles are hung in the same fashion, these strings, when played to together, are relatable to more common stringed instruments such as the contrabass and the harp.  When tapped or hit with the bamboo chopsticks, we hear something much more related to the sound of a cimbalom or hammered dulcimer.

The plastic bottles also serve as the main acoustic resonators of each string's vibrations.

When light is shined through these partially filled plastic water bottles the brilliance of the sound demonstration becomes illuminated by refracted light shining through water, and the different coloured plastic bottles, creating a mosaic of colour tinted light underneath and around each plastic bottle.

The metal cups (to be disputed as potentially 'un-necessary', 'less-appropriate', or even 'distracting' to the overall demonstration) add another layer of rhythmic and tonal dynamics when tapped or hit with the bamboo chopsticks.  It is possible to change the intonation of each metal cup by filling them with varying amounts of water.

Using a BOSS RC-30 loop station pedal, a BOSS DD-5 and DD-7 delay pedal, and a combination of two pitch shifting pedals, the dynamic possibilities of sound production alone become seemingly endless.

:: The why / where / for who / and in what context ::

I consider both the actions and receptions of this concept to be a Demonstration.  I have considered this decision to call it a Demonstration as opposed to a Performance, or Installation.

Performance, the way that i have experienced it, is capable of filling not only the performer's ego, but also the ego of each attendee in the audience, in real time.  Diverting the ego, is meant to be an exercise of just that - diverting the ego.  When i think of a performance, i think of distraction, inspiration seekers, thrill seekers, adventure seekers, festivals, parties, entertainment.  I don't find these descriptions to be fitting to my concept involving plastic bottles.

When i think of an installation, i think of intellectual inspiration seekers, curious investigators, something not necessarily 'cultural'.  There is a death that is involved when something is placed in a museum.  There, we see things on display, fossilised, stagnant, stuffy, closed to the outside world, a sort of library.

To me, a demonstration is anywhere, it's for everyone, anyone, open, often political, creating a place for finding 'what unites us'.

::

This demonstration of making music with commonly disregarded or seemingly valueless objects has been done time and time and time again in impoverished communities around the world as a form of artistic musical and cultural expression.  My intention is not only to share something with a freshness and beauty that is simple, healing, and moving to the viewer and listener, but to also offer a revealing perspective on the magical phenomenas exhibited, in hopes to unearth and deconstruct these sciences and complex technologies in a more basic way.

:: The sustainability of the project ::

The idea is that this project has a vast capacity for evolving, while maintaining the main principle of revealing magical phenomena, by unearthing and deconstructing modern technology, and modern technology solutions.  Ideally continuing to find beauty, simplicity, music and light along the way, whether be it in more commonly disregarded materials produced by humans, or in nature.
