À rester debout même quand la vie te jette à terre.  11 mois déjà et je n'ai toujours pas de mots pour exprimer tous mes maux... Alors j'emprunte ceux de ta chérie Annie Najm. C'est tellement magnifiquement bien écrit.. Je t'aime mon frère.  Caro xox ----------------------------------  " Nous naviguons sur une mer vers une nouvelle destination encore inconnue. Nous avons perdu tous nos repères... Les yeux fermés, sans savoir ce qui nous attend au loin, nous tentons d’avancer tranquillement. Il y a encore des jours de tempête mais aussi des jours de calme où parfois nous entrevoyons le ciel bleu.     C’est le voyage de notre vie.  Ce voyage nous ne l’avons pas choisi, encore moins accepté cependant nous avons encore la chance de pouvoir le vivre ensemble.  Peu importe où il nous mènera, sache que tu seras pour toujours mon port d’attache.  Je t’aime mon beau capitaine ♥️" Annie  ----------------------------------   LES FAITS C’est en mai 2020 que sa vie, que notre vie a basculée. Sa conjointe Annie reçoit l’appel qui l’informe que son chum est à l’hôpital. JF a fait un ACV. Déchirure de l'artère cervicale gauche, entrainant des lésions au tronc commun. Il est opéré le lendemain… et on attend… Aux scans on nous dit que ce n’est pas un mais 4 ACV qu’il a fait! Et de sombres séquelles sont à envisager. 36 ans, en couple depuis 17 ans et père de 2 fillettes de 8 et 10 ans… la famille est dévastée.  Après 2 semaines dans le coma, à son réveil c’est l’angoisse. Et maudit Covid on n’a pas pu être à son chevet avant + de 3 semaines!   SA CONDITION Depuis son réveil, Jean-François est paralysé de la tête aux pieds, porteur d'une trachéo, d'un gavage par stomie et ne parle malheureusement pas non plus, dû entre autres à la zone du cerveau, touchée par les ACV. Ayant reçu un diagnostic de LIS (lock-in-syndrom) ou Syndrome d’enfermement, on nous dit qu’il faudra accepter que JF soit placé en institution pour le reste de sa vie… Pour nous, c’est hors de question! JF fait assurément partie des cas atypiques de LIS car il ne devrait même pas bouger le petit doigt avec ce qu'il a vécu.  LA BONNE NOUVELLE c'est qu'il bouge de partout aujourd’hui !!! Leader né, il est toujours en train de nous montrer SA voie! Après 5 mois à l’hôpital, sa condition pulmonaire lui a enfin permis de passer à une autre étape. Il obtient son congé le 21 octobre 2020 pour aller au Centre de réadaptation de Montréal. Tout le personnel qui l'a côtoyé pendant 5 mois lui font une haie d'honneur et l'applaudisse à sa sortie en lui souhaitant la meilleure des chances pour la suite. Ils sont d'ailleurs encore en contact avec Annie pour prendre des nouvelles régulièrement. Il les a touchés d'une rare manière ❤. Il était plus que prêt à travailler !! Entouré quotidiennement de sa chérie Annie et de ses 2 parents depuis juin, il démontre une force et une détermination vraiment touchante et exemplaire. Amenez-en des exercices ! Il en fait plus que demandé et on est tous super heureux de le voir évoluer, semaine après semaine. Il nous fait des faces de blagueurs en plus! Tranquillement, il reprend certaines mobilités au niveau des jambes, des mains et des épaules, puis le cou tout doucement. C’est un réel cadeau de pouvoir enfin lire sur ses lèvres de plus en plus. Ça facilite un peu les communications et surtout pour lui qui peut enfin s’exprimer et être un peu mieux compris. Chaque jour il travaille fort et les journées sont bien remplies avec tous ces thérapeutes ; ergo, physio, psycho, inhalo, orthophoniste et alouette! Il est super bien entouré et déjà après 4 semaines on lui a attribué un fauteuil motorisé hightech qu’il apprend à piloter seul un peu mieux chaque jour. On est super fiers pour lui et il apprécie tout autant de retrouver un semblant d’autonomie et de liberté. Chaque petite évolution est une victoire!   APRÈS LA RÉADAPTATION (2021) Il continue de dire à Annie qu’il veut retourner chez lui et qu’il va les monter les escaliers. Bon ! Et on le souhaite de tout cœur aussi. Mais le chemin de réadaptation sera encore très long et on ne sait pas jusqu’où il récupérera. Le temps le dira. La réalité est aussi que pendant qu’il travaille fort au Centre, la petite famille à la maison continue à vivre et doit s’organiser rapidement!   UNE NOUVELLE VIE / MAISON PLUS ADAPTÉE La maison sur 3 étages ne conviendra pas pour accueillir JF à sa sortie dans quelques mois. C’est beaucoup de deuils et beaucoup de décisions importantes à prendre rapidement. Annie devra vendre leur maison, en trouver une nouvelle et la faire adapter à tous les niveaux pour son fauteuil motorisé, en plus d’un véhicule pour ses déplacements et suivis médicaux qui devra être adapté aussi. Tout ça coûte cher! Et comme JF ne travaillera pas avant un très long moment encore, ce GOFUNDME est prévu pour l’adaptation de la maison et pour aider au mieux le retour à sa nouvelle vie, à soutenir « sa fiancé » et leurs filles pendant les prochaines années. Parce que oui, alors qu’il a toujours été contre l’idée de se marier un jour, son nouvel objectif de vie et qu’il a confirmé à plusieurs reprises, c’est de se remettre debout pour épouser son Annie devant l’autel! Wow!   ******** CE GOFUNDME pour Jean-François : Nous avons été encouragés à entreprendre une collecte de fonds pour aider à acquérir l'équipement et entreprendre les modifications à la maison, nécessaires pour la prochaine phase de la vie – JF 2.0 Nous avons identifié les articles les plus prioritaires dont Jean-François aura besoin pour rentrer chez lui. Le «minimum viable» de la phase 1 comprend des éléments tels : qu'un lit électrique, des portes automatiques, un élévateur pour déplacer du lit à la  chaise, une camionnette pour se déplacer, une rampe pour entrer dans la maison, tablette et logiciel spécialisé de communication et bien sûr, un fauteuil roulant motorisé. La phase 2 comprendrait des rénovations à plus long terme, comme une salle de bains accessible et un lève-personne au plafond. Nous ne saurons pas quelles sont ces exigences tant que nous n’aurons pas plus de temps en réadaptation et que nous ne rentrerons pas à la maison pour voir comment la maison doit être adaptée. It is so beautifully written.. I love you my brother. Caro xox “We are navigating on open waters to an unknown destination and we have lost all sense of direction... Our eyes are closed, not knowing what lay’s ahead and we slowly persevere one step at a time. There are still wild storms ahead of us but also calm days where we sometimes can see the blue sky. It is the journey of our lifetime, one we have not chosen and even less accepted, but we still have the chance to live together. No matter where this journey takes us, I want you to know that you will always be my homeport. I love you my beautiful Captain” Annie THE FACTS It was in May of 2020 that his life, our lives were shaken forever. Annie received a call to inform her that JF was in the hospital. JF had a stroke. Left cervical artery tear, leading to lesions in the brain. He is operated the next day... and we wait... During the scans we are told that he in fact had not 1 stroke but had 4 total strokes! To expect very somber life altering affects from his strokes. 36 years old, together for 17 years and father of 2 daughters 8 and 10 years old, the family is devastated. After 2 weeks in a coma, it is pure agony when he awakens. In the height of Covid Lockdowns he was alone with no one by his side for more then 3 weeks! HIS CONDITION Since he has come out of his coma, JF is paralyzed from his head to his feet, on a respirator, ostomy forced feeding and is unfortunately not speaking due to the part of his brain that the strokes affected. With a Lock-in-Syndrome diagnosis we are told that we must accept that our JF will have to be placed in an institution for the rest of his life... This is out of the question for us! JF surely does not fall under the normal repercussions of the LIS syndrome since he should not be able to even lift his finger with what he has endured. THE GOOD NEWS is that he is able to move all of his extremities TODAY!!! REHABILITATION JF has not said his last words! A true born leader, he is always showing us HIS voice. After 5 months at the hospital, his pulmonary condition has finally allowed him to undergo the next step in his recovery. The 21st of October 2020 he is placed in the Re-adaptation Center of Montreal. All of the medical staff who were by his side for the past 5 months line up and applaud him on his way out and wish him the best of luck in his recovery. They are still till this day in contact with Annie to get regular updates on his well being. His bravery and fighting spirit has touched them all. ❤ He was more then ready to work on his recovery!! Encircled daily by his Annie and both of his parents since June he has shown bravery and determination that anyone would be proud of. Bring them on the exercises, he does more then is required and we are so proud to see him evolve week after week. He even makes silly faces to make everyone laugh. Slowly he is regaining some mobility in his legs, hands, shoulders and very slowly his neck. It is a real gift to be able to finally read his lips more and more every day. It makes the communications easier and more so for him to be able to be understood and to express himself. Every day he works hard and his days are filled with therapists : ergo, physio, psych, respiratory and many many more. He is very well taken care of and already after 4 weeks the center was able to loan him a motorised chair that he is slowly learning to drive by himself with every passing day. We are so proud of him and he is so grateful to be finding more of his independence back with each day. Every small gain is a huge victory! AFTER REHABILITATION (2021)  He continues to tell Annie that he wants to go home and that he WILL climb those stairs. We all whole heartedly want this for him, but the road ahead is very long and no one knows up to which point he will recover. Only time will tell. The reality is also that while he is working hard at the Center, his little family must adapt quickly to all the changes. A NEW LIFE / ADAPTED HOME There current home on 3 floors is not suitable for JF when he is released from the center in a few months. It is a lot to think about and a lot of decisions to take in a short period of time. Annie will have to sell their home, find another one and have it adapted to his needs for his motorised chair along with an adapted vehicle to be able to take him to his medical appointments and all of this Is very costly. Since JF will not be working for a very long time still, this GOFUNDME is intended to adapt a new home for him, to help him get back to his new life and to support his “fiancé” and daughters for the next few years. Because yes while he has always been against the idea of marriage, his new objective in life to which he has repeated time and time again is to stand himself up to marry his Annie at the alter! WOW! ******** THIS GOFUNDME FOR JEAN-FRANÇOIS We were encouraged to start this fundraiser to help get the necessary equipment and home modifications needed for his next step in life. Be it JF 2.0 We have identified the most critical items that JF will need to be back at home. The minimum of “phase 1” will include things such as: an electric bed, automatic doors, a hoist to help him get from his bed to his chair, an adapted vehicle, a ramp to get into the house, specialised computer to help him communicate and of course his own motorised chair. Phase 2 would include things such as long term renovations such as : an adapted bathroom and many more I am sure. We will not know exactly what is needed until we get him home and see what his needs are.
