Let's help the Rileys rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Harvey!
Our dear friends and altogether wonderful people, Carrie and Alan, along with their two month old and two year old daughters, were displaced from their one floor Meyerland home, taking in a foot and a half of water. There is extensive damage to the home, which has already been taken down to the studs by Alan and a team of amazing friends (and strangers) volunteering their time in an effort to save the structure. In addition to the extensive damage to the home, requiring rebuilding, they lost the vast majority of their furniture and many possessions. They are arranging for temporary housing in an apartment; timing and details of the more permanent next steps remain unclear.
Carrie evacuated Houston with the girls while Alan stayed behind, sleeping on an air mattress at the Texas Children’s Hospital, taking care of admitted children. When Alan was able to make it back to the house, 5 days after the beginning of Harvey, he became aware of the full extent of the damage. Through it all, they have maintained their positive spirit, unflinching strength and faith in the knowledge that they will get through this difficult time and will come out even stronger on the other end.
Regardless of their positive outlook, this will invariably be a long haul and a significant financial strain. Any funds received by way of this page will go straight to the Rileys to help them rebuild and ease the financial burden.
Carrie and Alan have always been there for their friends in times of need. Let's help them out in return! Any donation would be so greatly appreciated by this family, as well as those of us who know them and love them.
Carrie and Alan are heartbroken for their new Houston community, knowing that many people have experienced greater devastation and do not have the incredible safety net that they are blessed with. They were only comfortable with establishing this page if people were strongly encouraged to donate to organizations that are providing support to those most impacted by the storm, such as the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund (https://ghcf.org/hurricane-relief/).
