Reece has a cancerous tumor in his adrenal gland above his kidney. The cancer has spread into a couple of other tumors and through his bones.
Receiving the news that a child has been diagnosed with cancer is absolutely heartbreaking for any parent as well as other family members and friends. Educating yourself about childhood cancer is vital to fighting the disease and this is now going to be the new normal for the Damato & Veenhuis families.
❤︎ REECE’S STORY ❤︎
On May 31, 2018, my 3.5 year old nephew Reece V. was diagnosed with High Risk Stage IV Neuroblastoma Cancer at Roseville Children’s Hospital. Like many other families of children with cancer, this news was unexpected and will require much of Alissa and Bryan and their families. Here are few things I would like you to know :
1. Reece has a cancerous tumor in his adrenal gland above his kidney. The cancer has spread into a couple of other tumors and through his bones.
Reece has cancer all over his bones. The cancer has not turned into tumors, yet. It is the worst in his hips. The cancer is in his skull all the way down to his entire legs.
2. We do not have a prognosis, but if he responds well to this treatment, he has an 80% rate of beating this disease.
3. Reece will be starting Chemo early next week. We are not sure how long he will be reading treatments.
4. The family will be the hospital for the month of June.
We are HOPEFUL, CHEERFUL, and speaking LIFE over our precious Reece and have every reason to believe that he will make a full recovery! We are so grateful and blessed to have your prayers and support during this time.

- Medical Bills
- Fuel for their vehicles : Alissa will be staying at the hospital full time, & Bryan will be driving back and fourth on his days off. That’s a lot of gas!
- Brand new inside toys for Reece : He will not be able to go outside for a very long time so purchasing toys brand new and germ free will really help make it more bearable for him.
- Easy meals for our family.
- Smaller items to help keep a smile on Reece’s face during his hospital stays, like books, stuffed animals, and music, stickers, motorcycles, etc.
I will update here as we progress in this journey.

We can’t thank you all enough for all of the love, prayers and support. Reece just came out of surgery and we are waiting for him to wake up now. He had a Broviac inserted for fluids and chemo and a bone barrow biopsy for final diagnosis. He was happy before surgery, our main goal is to make sure he is happy through it all. As of today, Reece will not be about to leave the hospital for the entire month of June. He is also fighting a virus, now every person entering his room must wear a gown & mask.
