Rally for Martine-SLR Horse Trainer

On Thursday December 7, the Lilac Fire overtook San Luis Rey Training Center where hundreds of Thoroughbreds were stabled. Horsemen tried their best to evacuate barns to get both themselves and the horses to safety. Amongst those people was Martine Bellocq , a trainer who had six horses based out of San Luis Rey.
In putting the safety of her horses over her own safety, Martine suffered second and third degree burns on more than 50% of her body. She was airlifted to a specialized burn intensive care unit medical center where she is being treated. Sadly, Martine and her husband Pierre ended up losing two of their six horses in the fire.
Losing an animal is always tough, but for the Bellocq's this has created a devastating impact on their way of life. Martine and Pierre have always been involved in the horse industry. For them, horses are more than just a business--they're a way of life.
For those of you who personally know Martine, I think you'd agree with me on two things: 1. She ALWAYS puts her horses' well being before her own and 2. Her fierce determination will get her through this.
All funds will go directly to the Bellocq's through Stefanie Hincks, Martine and Pierre's daughter, and will be used for medical treatment and rebuilding after everything they have gone through. Thanks to all the employees and volunteers who have stepped up to ensure the safety of the horses in such a scary time. We are thankful for such a tight knit community both in San Diego and across the whole horse racing industry.
