My sister and her family had their world turned upside down just few weeks ago.   Below is her story in her words from her recent Facebook post:

I'm ready to share what we've been dealing with this summer.

After 6 years of searching, we finally found a home on 10 acres. It was for sale by owner and at their request, no realtors were involved on either side.

They were so welcoming and seemed to share in our excitement. They were moving out of state to be closer to their grandkids and they wanted their home to go to a family with children. We were literally hand picked from the prospective buyer pool.

Fast forward...we are homeless. We feel violated. We took a leap of faith on this home, sold our home in Sartell that we loved and acquired a home that is unlivable.

We hired an inspector who missed a room that had readings of moisture off the charts within the walls. He came back after closing and admitted he missed it. That was the tip of the iceberg, as mold is throughout the lower and upper level and made our entire family, including pets, sick.

Our roof leaks. The seller's disclosures indicated there were no known issues but after calling them admitted that yes, the roof began to leak a year after being replaced and advised us to just put some tar on it. They also were aware of the severe problem of moisture in the lower level room. It was all starting to make sense...they knew all along.

So here we are. Stuck with a home that we can't live in. A mortgage that we still owe. The lender doesn't care, the attorney general doesn't care, our home insurance company can offer zero help. We need deep pockets to either fix the problem or hire an attorney; we do not have deep pockets after this. So our choice is to either walk away or try and do a short sale. How completely and utterly unfair.

We now have a storage unit that holds our things. The boxes we brought over stink like mold. We were advised to unpack and repack our belongings into new boxes. Our things may have to be professionally treated since mold spores are contaminating everything.

We are now living in the Twin Cities with my parents. Our jobs are still in central Minnesota so we are driving an hour each way, each day. Gas is costing almost $500 per month. I have never felt so lost, displaced and violated in my life.

This is deeply personal but I need an outlet to express the torment that is happening in our lives. I wish someone had a magic wand and could make this all go away.
