Our dear friend Karen has been courageously fighting stage IV colon cancer that spread to her ovaries, liver, and bones. Through incredible strength and aggressive treatments, she successfully overcame ovarian, colon, and bone cancer. However, the metastasis to her liver remains incurable but manageable with ongoing chemotherapy.

A PET scan is critical for monitoring Karen’s cancer and ensuring she is receiving the best possible care. But when she arrived for her scan, she was blindsided with devastating news—her insurance had been canceled. She is currently fighting with the insurance marketplace to reinstate her coverage, but they’ve told her it could take up to 45 days to resolve the issue. That’s time she doesn’t have when battling an aggressive disease.

Karen is a loving mom of three and, due to her intensive treatments, she is unable to work. With mounting medical expenses, she and her family simply cannot afford this unexpected setback. The hospital requires $5,000 out-of-pocket—even with their financial assistance program.
