7 year-old Dawson is in the toughest fight of his short life.
Friday, April 13th, Dawson was attending an MSSU baseball game with his family when he was struck in the head by a foul ball. He was rushed to Children's Mercy in Kansas City where he underwent surgery to remove part of his skull and allow for swelling (which they may not be able to replace for months.) He is now resting until the doctors feel he is ready to be off sedation. So far, we know he has a brain injury that will likely impact movement on the left side of his body. He has also suffered several mini-strokes and has 3 fractures in his right orbital bone that may require another surgery. We won't know much more about the extent of the damage and the road ahead until he is allowed to wake up.
Dawson is a twin. He and his sister Delaney were adopted together by Alicia and Nick out of the foster system years ago. We are all so blessed by their addition to our family. Their being adopted also allows some medical expenses to be covered by the state. At this point, we are unsure of how much will be covered and how much care Dawson will need in the future (physical therapy, etc.)
All donations will go to cover medical bills and expenses for things such as travel and housing. Any money that we receive above and beyond what is absolutely needed will go back to organizations like Children's Mercy that have been so amazing to us and so many people like us.
If you can not or do not feel led to donate, please continue to lift Dawson up in prayer. We know God has him in His arms. We can't thank you all enough for the support!
