On Thursday, June 12th, Alfred Policy, who most of you know as Fredo, Alf, or Alfie, suffered a stroke affecting his thalamus.

The thalamus is a small but incredibly important part of the brain that acts as the brain’s “relay center,” helping to process and transmit information related to movement, coordination, sensation, and even emotions. Because of its central role, a stroke in the thalamus can impact many functions depending on the severity and exact location of the damage.

The good news is that Fredo recovery is going well. He’s staying with his mom in Canton and is already making progress through outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy. His prognosis is very good, and we are very optimistic that with time, effort, and support, he will make a full recovery.

On Saturday, August 2nd, the Kelleys Island Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their annual Steak Fry, and this year, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to support Fredo's recovery. For those who cannot attend in person but still want to help, we’ve created this GoFundMe as a way to contribute from afar.

Funds raised will help cover:

Medical bills from hospital stays, therapies, and ongoing care.

Your donations will ease the financial stress so Fredo can focus fully on his recovery.

We appreciate your support!
