To those of you who know us already know that my sister Amanda is my best friend. She is the wife of David and mother to Paige, Austin and Kailynn. Paige is 22, Austin is 20 and Kailynn is 6. Both of her adult children are in school and have full time jobs. Amanda has a small cleaning business that she runs when she isn't taking care of her family. She is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all that know her.
May 30th she was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm. After multiple scans and an angiogram we have been told that she has two aneurysms and two weak spots or potential aneurysms on her right carotid artery, and one aneurysm and one weak spot on her left carotid artery. These aneurysms are located near her temples. Amanda will need two surgeries to repair or fix these. The neurosurgeon has recommended she have a procedure called flow diversion/pipeline, using a PED (pipeline embolism device). The idea behind this device is that they will feed it into the artery via catheter and then place the PED against the walls of the carotid artery. Once this PED is safely in place the aneurysms will stop recieving blood flow and they will begin to clot and shrink. After 6 months they have shown to shrink about 90%.
Amanda and her husband are very hardworking people they both own and run thier own business, but unfortunately due to the rising cost of healthcare and insurance she does not have medical coverage. We have applied for insurance for her but unfortunately the enrollment period is over and she doesn't qualify for the special enrollment. The estimated cost for both surgeries is about $199,000.
The PED devices alone costing about $11,000 each. This does not include the cost of hospital stays, scans, and medication etc. Her first surgery is scheduled for June 23rd and the second surgery will be about 1 month later.
We need help to pay for these surgeries. These surgeries are a dire emergency and can't be put off. Her two office visits to the nurosurgeon in the last week were over $400. She has been unable work very much because the doctors have advised her to stay calm, relax and to stay away from heavy lifting or strenuous activity. As you can imagine cleaing houses can be pretty strenuous!
I have at this point set our goal for $10,000 because I feel like it is much more realistic than $199,000. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
