Rally 4 the Randall Thompson Family

Spende geschützt
Many of you know my brother, Randall Thompson, his wife Colleen, and his children - David, Connor, Ashley, Reid, Josh, and McKenna .

What you may not know is that on June 14th, 2019, while in Minneapolis to give a speech, his life changed in an instant when the  driver of an SUV turned a corner and struck him as he was crossing a downtown street (with the "Walk" indicator).

Although he was thrown in the air (one of his shoes was even knocked off his foot), he miraculously had no head/brain trauma; however, he sustained many other serious injuries - including over 60 breaks/fractures to his right leg, multiple breaks in his left leg, breaks in his right wrist, right elbow, and a cracked rib.  He has been through two surgeries, and currently his right leg is immobilized by an external "cage" that is attached internally to multiple places in his leg.  Upcoming surgeries are required to replace his right knee, remove the cage, and insert internal plates/pins, etc. to stabilize the shattered bones so they can heal.

I was finally given the go-ahead to come up to Michigan to see him, and instead of his usual smart-aleck response to seeing his big sister, I got this...

Right now he is in a sub-acute care facility and has begun the long process of learning how to adjust and recover from these injuries.  If you know him well, you know he is a fighter!  And with the love and support of Colleen and his kids, he is fighting hard to get well.

Unfortunately, it will be at least several months before Randall will be able to work again.  And as a husband and father, his biggest fear and concern right now is being unable to provide for his family.  It's clear that fear is much bigger than any physical pain he is going through.  Although the driver of the SUV that hit him was insured, it was basic/minimal coverage for this type of situation and won't begin to cover the expenses incurred, the lost income, and many more costs still to come.  In addition, they need to move to a handicap accessible apartment suitable for Randy's recovery once he is able to come home.

My brother has touched countless lives through his work to make life better for Michigan residents, through his volunteer work with many charitable causes, through his children's lives, sports and activities, through his faith, and through the many neighbors and friends he's had through the years.

Maybe you know him from WAYYYY back - from Novi High School, Holy Family Church, Central Michigan University Alumni, Sigma Chi (ZP-'95)....or later,  from the University of Detroit Mercy alumni, Via de Cristo, or the Knights of Columbus.

Maybe you know him from his volunteer involvement in Fenton, Lake Fenton, and Otisville sports programs.  Or from the Tartar Twelve and the Wayne State Warrior Football family.

Maybe you share his support and activism for the Relay for Life Michigan walks, the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Michigan,  and the Flint Arts and Cultural Community.

But I know him by how much he means to all his family.  Randy's sense of humor, his giving heart, and his love are everything to us.

It is never easy to ask for help.  It is humbling and difficult to admit that you need support.  So I am asking on behalf of him and his family.

If you can make a donation of any amount, it is appreciated more than you will ever know. Their needs are significant and immediate.

If you can offer love, prayers, and/or encouragement for Randall and his family, I pray your kindness may come back to you many times over.

If you can share this message with others who may have benefitted from knowing Randall or if you can share the link on one of the organizations' pages listed above, they could receive the help needed to sustain the family's immediate needs so Randall can concentrate on recovering.

Maybe you (like me) are more familiar with "this" Randall - the one we're praying to have back soon:

Please consider donating - your support will help his family while he works to come back to them - walking, working, and living life again.

HELPING ONE PERSON MAY NOT CHANGE THE WORLD,
BUT IT CAN CHANGE THE WORLD FOR ONE FAMILY.

On behalf of the Randall Thompson family, THANK YOU for your love, compassion and generosity!
