My name is Rajae Wright, and I am currently a 23 year-old, fourth year Dental Student of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Jamaica. From a tender age, I have always wanted to be a part of the health sector, so I could help out as many persons as I can. After much soul searching and consultations, it became increasingly evident that a career in Dentistry is one that would best suit my personality whilst still fulfilling these desires.
I started the journey in 2013 very enthused and optimistic to exercise my faith and see things through to the end. I was able to receive a 50% scholarship from the school's financial department, as well as student loans and help from my family. This went a far way and allowed me to get through my first 2 years. However, due to increases in tuition annually, coupled with pressing financial difficulties being faced by my family, I was unable to progress to my third year, and had to take a year off due to outstanding balances owed.
During this period, I worked to try offsetting the cost, but was unable to come up with enough. Just a few days before school was scheduled to begin the following year, I finally had a breakthrough, and was granted a scholarship which cleared all my arrears. For me, that was a sign of destiny opening its doors for my future as a Dentist to become manifested. I quickly took up the opportunity and resumed school with the hope that the financial aspects would work out as I go along. I am now in the first semester of my fourth year, but am unable to continue any further due to outstanding fees from the previous semester. The amount currently owed is equivalent to approximately USD$10,000.00.
I am a very diligent, honest and dedicated individual, who is willing to go the extra mile to accomplish any task given. Once I am able to overcome this financial hurdle, very little can stop me from further pursuing my dreams. I will not give up, and have now turned to this forum as a source for funding. A little goes a far way.
