Raising up Allie Bianchi

Donation protected

If ever there were an image in a dictionary, encyclopedia or google search for an outstanding young person or a wonderful human being, we would see Allie's picture. To know Allie is to love Allie, and the net is very wide for how many people whose lives have been enriched by knowing her.

I am reaching out to you to join the team in helping lift Allie up now. Allie is an athlete. Skiing, dance, field hockey, hiking and her latest endeavor, mountain biking. On August 6th, 2022, Allie was out on one of her usual adventures. She was mountain biking with friends and took a bad fall on a mountain. She had to be taken off the trail by an ATV rescue. There was immediate concern that she had a spinal cord injury, and she was transported with that in mind. Upon arrival at the hospital, imaging showed that she had fractured two vertebrae in her neck at the C5 and C6 levels. She underwent 5 hours of surgery that evening, where they placed two rods and two pins to stabilize her spine. She remains in the intensive care unit at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Currently, 4 days after her fall, she has full motion in her shoulders and is regaining upper body sensation daily. She has some sensation in her legs but no movement yet. Thankfully, she had no head injury or concussion. Her breathing is not impacted, and her mind and her spirit are very much intact. She is taking an active role in her care. Her positive and determined attitude prevails!

When Allie is medically stable, she will go to a rehab facility for many months to continue her recovery. Her family and many, many friends will be by her side every step of the way.

Allie graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2021 with a degree in elementary special education. She has always had a love for children, especially children with special needs. She was about to start her second year teaching special ed at Barre City Elementary School in Vermont. She had also just embarked on her journey to obtain her master's degree in that field. She has been at the top of her game, but in a flicker of a moment, her life has changed.

Allie is fierce. She is driven. She was a dancer from the time she was little through high school, including being a leader on the competition Mount Mansfield High School dance team. She played field hockey through high school and four years of college. She has skied her entire life and helped teach lessons at Cochran's ski area. She has worked with local special needs children and babysat for many families in the area. Allie has always been who people think of first when they need anything. Dependable, trustworthy. A truly remarkable human being.

Allie is going to have many needs as she climbs this mountain. She will be unable to work in the near future, and her parents and two older brothers will also miss many work days. Most likely, her rehab will be out of state, which will incur further expenses. It is going to be a long journey.

So now it is our turn to raise her up. To give Allie our strength so she can stand on mountains and walk these stormy seas. Let's work together and brighten the world that she has brightened for so many of us.

Just yesterday, Allie told her parents, Dana and Lisa, that as horrible as this is for her, there must be a reason that it happened. And maybe that reason is so she can conquer this and help others with similar problems. That is our Allie.
