Raising the Roof Project

                                                            February 4th,  Mid-Winters, 2020
There are some traditions that celebrate their new year at different times, but, as many turn a new page on the Gregorian Calendar, we wish you 'health and abundance' in 2020.

We haven’t posted recently because the holidays are such a busy time for most folks, however, we wanted to bring you up to date. Raise the Roof has become a reality!

Please share this link once more to remind people that we are moving forward. If you haven’t yet donated, or can donate again, please do so today on this
GoFundMe site. If you are more comfortable using regular mail, you are welcome to send a check, payable to the Museum, to:

Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum
PO Box 142
18 Highlawn Road
Warner, NH 03278

Although we had to say goodbye to beautiful “Standing Ones” next to the museum, it is the first step to replacing the museum roof to fulfill our commitment to protect these artifacts that include our outstanding collection of Northeastern Baskets. We have also made the deposit to have the roof replaced this spring. We are making progress but we still need your help. Each $25, $250, or $2,500 donation moves us forward.

                                                                    July 21st  NEWS FLASH!

Last week Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum was approached by one of our longtime members.  They offered to donate a dollar for every dollar that is given to the 'Raise the Roof'  project up to half of our initial goal of $30,000.  In mathematical terms, if you donate $50 the fund receives $100 if you donate $100 the project gets $200 if you donate $1,000 ~ well, you get the idea. Your generosity which has always been key to the success of our mission now makes your support twice as valuable. This means we will not only be able to replace the roof but all of the associated damage the years have caused.

We want to thank our benefactor publicly but we respect their wish to remain anonymous. Please show them how much their gift has inspired you by donating today and sharing this link.

How Does MKIM Raise a Roof?

One of the most common medicines used by different Indigenous nations across Turtle Island is Sweetgrass. Each blade of Sweetgrass has a gentle strength. It sends its wafting aroma of vanilla honey from your hands to your nose, and then your heart. Native People braided Sweetgrass to make it stronger and more durable. The three sections of the braid may represent different things. At MKIM, we see these three strands as our staff, our volunteers, and our supporters made up donors, members, and sponsors. The many strands strengthen each section, but when they are braided, they become, collectively, unbreakable.

To begin the 'Raising the Roof Project', we must replace the roof of the museum after almost thirty years of excellent service. The new roof will cost about $30,000. In addition to the extensive rust, leaking vents,  rain damage on parts of the ceiling and the external walls. MKIM is committed to our mission to preserve those treasures that are entrusted to our care, but we cannot do it without you. Please consider becoming one of the financial strands of the braid by donating whatever you can to the 'Raise the Roof Project'

Please share this campaign on all the social media platforms you use. If you are not on social media sites please, email your friends the link, as it will take them directly to the GoFundMe page, The more we tell the story the greater are our chances of reaching our goal because you are part of our team.
