Raising money for Meningitis Now

Donation protected
Hey everyone :) I am going to be quitting social media (Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter) for the whole month of February in the hope that people will sponser me to raise money for Meningitis Now.

As some of you know in November 2017, I contracted bacterial meningitis. It is an illness that comes on very quickly and can be extremely dangerous, I went to a health centre one morning with a bad headache and that evening I was in hospital in a coma. Even though I am still suffering from the long term impact of the swelling of the brain, I have been extremely lucky throughout this process and am very grateful to be where I am today.

However, the strain of meningitis that I suffered from can kill you in as short as 8 hours, and it is absolutely vital that people are aware of the signs and symptoms so they to can get the essential professional medical care they need fast enough to save their life. I want to raise money for Meningitis Now because I think the importance of spreading awareness of this disease cannot be overstated, and the work of this charity is truly life changing. Just a £10 donation can help save lives by getting 350 signs and symptoms cards out into the community.

Not only do they help with raising awareness and educating people about meningitis, but they also have amazing programs in place to help those who are suffering from the long term impacts. Unfortunately, recovering from menigitis is a slow and painful process - I still suffer from extremely bad headaches, joint pain, and sleep problems. I also have total memory loss of the week running up to my admission to hospital. But I am in the minority of the lucky ones who do not have to deal with the other potential long term impacts of bacterial meningitis, such as limb amputations and more severe memory loss than I experienced. A £50 donation can provide someone suffering with the after effects of meningitis with an hour of emotional support from a specialist counsellor, which is vital because the onset of depression and anxiety is common with victims of this brain disease.

Originally I was planning on running a 5K in order to raise money, but it is too early in my recovery to do so. So instead, I won't use any social media sites for the whole month of February. I can't express how much a donation of any size to this cause would mean to me, and to my family and friends who have been so incredible and supportive, and are truly the reason I am here today.
