Dear Friends and Family,
As the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spreads across NYC, our hospitals have been overwhelmed. We face an unprecedented number of COVID-19 cases requiring intensive care, in addition to the standard flow of patients. Our frontline staff is experiencing a severe shortage of personal protective equipment (“PPE”). As a behind-the-scenes employee of the public hospital system, I have teamed up with film industry friends, Dave Major, Cat Navarro, and volunteers from Art Cube Nation to help supply PPE to those who need it most, the local providers and staff currently in the field.
We're raising money today to fund additional PPE, specifically face shields. An Infection Prevention specialist has provided official specifications, and volunteers stand ready and eager to begin creating new and safe handmade face shields for local hospitals in need. The money you provide will directly cover the materials and administrative costs needed in their production. Should NYC hospitals become adequately stocked with PPE, any remaining funds could be directed as a relief fund for the many volunteers of this project who have been deeply impacted by the pandemic.
As of March 28th, the funding raised here will also support a project specifically for SUNY Downstate, which is now a NYS-appointed COVID-19 only hospital.

1) The organizer is Christina Pili with co-organizers Cat Navarro, Eva Radke -- we are independent people who are organizing volunteer groups to fabricate PPE and hospital equipment for NYC area hospitals during the COVID-19 crisis. This campaign is neither sponsored nor endorsed by NYC Health + Hospitals.
2) The funds we are raising are going towards materials costs (reimbursing volunteers who have paid for materials to fabricate PPE and hospital equipment out of their own pockets), as well as small donations going towards volunteers who have been financially affected/lost jobs during this crisis.
3) Donations will be spent mostly on materials to create PPE - specifically over 2,500 face shields (to cover the cost of vinyl, foam, specialty tape, elastic, etc). Small sums (between $20 and $100 each) are also going toward any volunteers who have helped to fabricate or deliver masks, and have been financially affected by the crisis by job loss. Donations will also be spent on materials needed to create hospital equipment for SUNY Downstate Hospital (I.V. drip extenders, plastic tarps, patient divider panels).
4) Currently our plan is for Catharyn Navarro to withdraw funds -- she will distribute funds (likely via Venmo or bank transfers) to Face Shield volunteers who need to be reimbursed for materials, or who will be receiving donations as stated in our initiative (all in all, approximately $7,000). Eva Radke will receive and distribute all remaining funds to go toward materials purchases of hospital equipment needed for SUNY Downstate.
