Raising Hope for Riley

Donation protected
Riley is a beautiful little girl who is fighting for her life.  Earlier this year, Riley got sick.  Based on her symptoms, the doctors believed that she had a hole in her stomach so she was flown to Salt Lake City to have emergency surgery.  Upon opening Riley up, they found nothing that needed repair.  So, they closed her up and miraculously Riley started to improve.

In the past week, Riley has started getting sick again.  When she arrived at the hospital  she was not doing well at all.  She had not been eating, was very dehydrated and her stomach was distended.  As her body became increasingly malnourished, the staff on the pediatric floor at St. Vincents attempted a Central Line in hopes that her body would accept food and nutrients.  Unfortunately, this failed because she has what is called Refeeding Syndrome.  Refeeding Syndrome can be fatal and the body starts to deplete all its resources and it begins to shut down.

The next course of action is to fly Riley and her family to Salt Lake again where they plan to do everything they can to find out what is causing her body to reject all nutrients.  Riley and her mom can fly out on December 21 at 8 am

Riley's parents are Eric and Kayla Hefner.  They also have two other daughters and a son.  Eric is the owner of Red's Automotive and Diesel in Billings and Kayla is a Certified Pediatrics Nurse on the pediatric's floor at St. Vincent Healthcare.  Riley has been a patient for the past week on the very unit that Kayla works on.  Burdened by the financial obligations that come with having medical bills to pay, Kayla has still had to go to work to take care of other children.  She is forced to walk passed her own child's room all day on her way to care for her other patients. Kayla has spent her career doing everything she can to help sick children get better.  Now, her child is sick and she deserves to be able to be by her child's side not having to worry about how to pay for the medical bills.

It would be a blessing for Eric, Kayla and all their children if they could have some monetary help through this holiday season.  It looks as if they will be spending Christmas in Salt Lake as they fight to save Riley's life.  We just ask that you can find it within your heart to consider giving to this loving family living every parents worst nightmare.  Even if it is just $5, every little bit helps and will lessen the financial burden they are facing.  If you are unable to give financially then we ask that you pray for this little girl.  We believe that prayer works, and that God listens.

Thank you and may God bless you.
