Raising Funds for Victims of Domestic Violence

We are BREAK the SILENCE and for 2022 we are traveling the country to raise awareness for domestic violence, and fundraising to help improve the current housing options available to victims and their families.

Every year, more than 10 million men and women in the U.S. are subjected to Domestic Violence. Its impact can be felt far and wide: More than 1 in 3 women (35.6%) and more than 1 in 4 men (28.5%) in the U.S. will experience rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. And women ages 18 to 24 and 25 to 34 generally experience the highest rates of intimate partner violence.

As the United States continues to grapple with the devastating fallout of the coronavirus pandemic—from deaths, job loss, evictions, and so much more—there has also been a surge of domestic violence. Stay-at-home orders essential to slowing the spread of the virus, coupled with the economic and health stressors caused by the pandemic, have forced survivors already at risk of domestic abuse into even more vulnerable and dangerous positions.

Existing support systems for domestic violence survivors are proving inadequate during the pandemic and point to the need for a stronger nationwide infrastructure connecting survivors to vital supports and services. The current crisis of Domestic violence shines a spotlight on the overriding inadequacies of the very systems intended to support survivors and to prevent or mitigate domestic violence itself.

An improved system of survivor supports would:

-Ensure domestic violence programs and shelters receive sufficient funding and are deemed essential businesses during the pandemic and any future crises.

-Improve access to comprehensive paid family and medical leave and paid sick leave; child care; and unemployment insurance if a survivor needs to leave a job for an extended period or loses a job.

-Prioritize improvements to existing laws, including the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and legislative fixes to the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA)

And this is what we are here to accomplish. Every donation we receive helps victims and survivors move forward and separate from their abusers.
