Raising Funds for Chornomorska Sitch Sports Club

Chornomorska Sitch strives to create a community of people who are enthusiastic about learning and teaching sports, and good sportsmanship within the Ukrainian diaspora.
Chornomorska Sitch’s mission is to provide opportunities for youth and adult athletes to develop their skills, train as teams and compete in leagues and tournaments. Since 1924, Chornomorska Sitch has offered programs across a broad variety of sports, such as soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, hockey and golf, and in earlier years, archery, bowling, chess, ping pong and ballroom dancing.
Chornomorska Sitch calls the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey (UACCNJ) in Whippany its home; running clinics/training/competitions 3-4 times per week. Sitch has also been working on developing outdoor fields and courts at its property just 10 minutes up the road from UACCNJ with a vision for their use by the Ukrainian community at large.
Unfortunately, as has happened to many community-oriented non-profit organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit Chornomorska Sitch hard.
For the greater part of last year, pandemic-driven gym closures prevented Sitch from running any of its recreational or competitive programs. This year, although gyms are opening slowly, pandemic-driven capacity limitations allow for very limited participation. Most sadly, Chornomorska Sitch’s Summer Sports School, an institution for over 50 years, could not be held last summer – the first time a camp was not held since 1969. While the inability to offer these programs to youth and adults is the true loss, the loss of funds from these two primary sources of revenue for Chornomorska Sitch pose significant financial challenges to the ability to sustain the organization and the activities supporting its mission.
Whether you are a Sitch alumni, a current member, or someone who appreciates the important role Chornomorska Sitch plays in supporting the Ukrainian community through sports and sports education, we are appealing to you for your financial support so that we can maintain our programs and encourage our youth and adults to play and compete together as Ukrainian athletes.
