<div>Hi, my name is Daniel and I'm raising money for a Burning Man and community art project!  This past year my team and I submitted a proposal for an art grant, we were selected and awarded some money to make our idea of "A Basic Bench" come to life.  Unfortunately, the grant was not enough to cover all the building expenses and need to raise funds to cover the rest of the build.

<div>The project "A Basic Bench" will be an 18' tall visually appealing multi-tiered community gathering creation with shaded seating spaces organized in a way to provide different viewing spaces, encouraging visitors to connect with their neighbors, to pause on their treks and take in what's around them.

<div>A Basic Bench will be constructed out of 4" curved steel I-beams, rough cut wooden timbers, waxed canvas tarps, and memory foam futons. The curved nature of the form lends to a feeling of fluidity while its sheer weight presents a feeling of solidity in space. While many of the projects on the playa are trending toward computer assisted construction methods, this project goes a different direction, bringing a heavyweight, industrial era feel and historic material vibes. While still fusing small amounts of modernity that comes from the curved shapes and other minor styling cues rather than the construction methods and materials.

<div>A Basic Bench is a piece that is not about the art so much as

<div>the community around it. Having the original concept evolved through the participation of several friends over the years, this project has generated relationships and grown through their involvement and feedback. Simply put, this project would not have happened without the interactions, participation, and shared experiences of myself, my team, and all the characters involved along the journey.  So help us continue this journey and help make this idea and dream a reality.
