Raise money for Immunotherapy

On the 18th January 2017 my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. 70% survival rate we were told, as long as he endured 6 long weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Before the treatment could even start, my dad needed to have his tonsils removed and some teeth. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy began soon after which caused a liot of nasty side effects and countless infections.

15th May 2017 - the last radiotherapy session was complete and now it was just the agonising wait to find out whether or not the cancer was gone. Dad got scanned and the results weren’t as expected. After the strongest batch of chemo and radiotherapy the cancer hadn’t gone and dad needed an operation to remove the tumour.

October 19th 2017 - dad is having an operation to remove the cancer in his neck. The operation was successful and the surgeon advised us he removed a large hard mass and a biopsy will be carried out.

November 3rd 2017 - the cancer hasn’t gone, dad is now classed as terminal. There are treatment options which can manage the cancer but will not cure him.

November 14th 2017 - we have been told dad has 12 months if the medication does not help manage the cancer. There are potential clinical trials and dad has been referred to the Royal Marsden hospital for a second opinion.

My dad is 46 years old, recently married my step mum on September 16th and will be leaving behind a wife and 5 children. We are not prepared to give up on dads fight for life and we are not taking 12 months as his sentence. After untold research and communication with the consultants we believe immunotherapy is the best course of treatment for my dad. However, immunotherapy isn’t currently available on the NHS and can cost between £5,000-£6,000 per session. My dads a proud man and would never ask for help but right now, we are fighting to save his life.

I will be arranging a fundraising event and taking part in endless runs, assault courses, may even shave my head.. () who knows, because I would do absolutely anything to give my dad a chance to have a longer, healthier life.

First on my list is the Brighton half marathon which I will be running on Sunday 25th February
