Hi, I’m Lex, I’m 20 years old. In 2019 when I was 14 years old I started experiencing severe chronic pain in my legs. The pain would get so bad my legs would just give in and collapse at times. Over the past 6 years this has just got worse and worse and the doctors are still none the wiser as to what is causing it. This has left me struggling to go out during flare ups requiring me to use mobility aids primarily crutches and a wheelchair. The NHS provided me with a standard wheelchair however, despite the fact this should have given me some independence back it hasn’t. It’s bulky and extremely difficult to propel leaving me unable to go out on bad pain days unless my partner is home. However even just pushing this chair is hurting my partners back aswell. If we are able to raise the funds for a custom wheelchair this would massively improve my quality of life and give me my freedom and my independence back, I’ll be able to get back into work, to enjoy holidays without ending up in excruciating pain from them, even just be able to go to the supermarket on my own.
