From starting as a squat opened up by a group of friends in 1995, BASE has provided space for the development of anarchist & radical ideas and activities, direct action campaigns and international solidarity for 24 years. Proudly anti-capitalist and vegan before it was cool, BASE has become a vital part of Bristol's social ecology. BASE is still entirely run by volunteers and operates on a shoestring. We now need to pay £18,000 for essential repairs to the roof.
Over the years BASE has hosted countless meetings, gatherings, fundraisers, acoustic gigs, film screenings, DIY archiving sessions, discussions, workshops and skillshares, art exhibitions and plotting the revolution. User groups have included anarchist, climate change, anti-racism and animal liberation campaigners, feminists, storytellers, prison abolitionists, herbalists, self-defence groups, puppeteers and vegans.
While BASE is a small building, its influence has spread far and wide and Bristol would look very different without it. Many people have attended events at BASE to unexpectedly meet their future best friends, housemates, co-conspirators, action buddies or the love of their life. It has also sparked conversations that led to the existence of radical institutions such as the Bristol Anarchist Bookfair, or Bristolians' contributions to large protest events such as resistance to the G8 and attempts to frack the UK.
By donating to this fundraiser you will be helping BASE to keep on functioning as a social centre, meeting venue, storage space and experimental playground for large parts of Bristol's radical and anarchist community.
