Railyard Art Project

Tax deductible
The Railyard Art Project (RAP) is ready to take public art in the Railyard Park + Plaza to the next level! With your help, the Railyard Art Project can bring MORE sculpture, MORE installations and MORE performances into the Railyard District, Santa Fe's gathering space.

Managed by the Railyard Park Conservancy, a 501(c)3 non profit,  RAP facilitates the rotating, temporary public art in Santa Fe's Railyard Park + Plaza. Since the Railyard opened in 2008, dozens of art projects, from sculptures to performances, have captivated and engaged the Santa Fe community.

Why is Public Art Important? Public art has the ability to connect people and place. The temporary nature of rotating public art offers a venue for artists to produce experimental work, engage the public with a particular issue, and raise awareness about important causes that affect us and our environment. Cities gain value through public art by adding a unique sense of place and pride to the local community.  When art is free and open to everyone, it can engage people who may never step foot into a gallery or museum, democratizing the art viewing experience.

What kind of art can be found in the Railyard? The Railyard Art Committee votes on proposed projects on a rotating basis, seeking art that is vital, lively and experimental. Projects that enter the park and plaza are within the context of social, cultural expression and environmental sustainability while emphasizing community engagement and participation. The rotating nature of temporary art installations means the Railyard Park + Plaza can be one place in the summer and an entirely new place in the winter, inviting visitors to enjoy a large scale sculpture one month and a dance performance the next.

Where does the money go? Funds will go directly to artists for their time and cost of materials, with a small percentage of money being allocated for art openings, marketing and printed signs.

How can I submit a proposal?
