Radio Habana Social Club !S.O.S!

Víctor Navarrete y Leila Mansur, queridos amigos y miembros de nuestra comunidad, necesitan TU AYUDA para superar un momento muy difícil: el Radio Habana Social Club, su negocio desde hace veinte años, ha tenido que cerrar temporalmente sus puertas debido a una reestructuración sísmica del edificio ordenada por la ciudad de San Francisco.

Ellos necesitan tu apoyo durante los próximos dos meses, no solo para sobrevivir en una de las ciudades más caras del mundo, sino para rehacer el Radio Habana después de la reestructuración. El interior del local ha sido demolido completamente y tendrán que RECONSTRUIR todo: la barra, la cocina, el baño, el piso, los estantes… ¡Es mucho trabajo y mucho dinero!

Víctor y Leila son conocidos artistas, comentaristas, activistas y miembros de la comunidad de San Francisco que por veinte años han plasmado sus ideas creativas, políticas y sociales en el Radio Habana. Como dijo un amigo alguna vez “Entrar al Radio Habana es como caminar en la mente de nuestro gran artista Víctor Navarrete”.

Radio Habana es un espacio laberíntico no definido entre café, bar, restaurante y galería de arte, donde lo culto, lo popular, lo masivo, lo universal y lo local se yuxtaponen en cada rincón. Es uno de esos tesoros que se han construido a lo largo de los años y que se han negado a morir a pesar de los cambios en el barrio de La Misión. Se trata de uno de los últimos patrimonios culturales que nos quedan, y por eso mismo fue reconocido en 2018 con el Latino Legacy Business Award, otorgado por el Distrito Cultural de Patrimonio Latino de la Calle 24.
 
APOYEMOS a Víctor y a Leila en esta maratónica tarea de SOBREVIVIR en San Francisco y REABRIR las puertas del Radio Habana para el disfrute de muchos. ¡Que las viejas rencillas NO DEJEN MORIR al Radio Habana Social Club!

Please help our beloved friends and community members Victor Navarrete and Leila Mansur make it through this incredibly challenging time!  Their business, the 20-year-old Radio Habana Social Club, has temporarily closed for a seismic retrofit.  We need help for the next couple months, not only to help Victor and Leila survive in the most expensive city in the world but also to rebuild the bar after we reopen.  Because we will be back!! 

Radio Habana Social Club is the long-standing second home in San Francisco’s Mission District.  At Radio Habana, the pictures and paintings breathe of creative life and history of important people in our present and past, both in the world and in our neighborhood. We are all equals under the disarming gaze of the unsettling adoration all over the walls.  

Granted the Latino Legacy Business Award by the Calle 24 Latino Cultural Heritage District in 2018, Radio Habana Social Club is deep Mission love and roots and we intend to stay!   

Besides having to remove, store, and return ALL these wondrous intricacies from every inch of wall, we will need to rebuild all interior structures.  The seismic retrofit has completely gutted the inside and we’ll need to reconstruct the counter space, bar, floor decorations, shelving space…everything!  

Victor Navarrete and Leila Mansur are well-known artists, restrauteurs, activists, and community members of San Francisco.
