Alexandra Tomala needs our help. She is fighting bladder cancer for the 3rd time in her life but this time her health is deteriorating very quickly. Ola had 3 separate surgeries, two blood transfusions, several treatments for unexpected infections, her kidneys almost failed and her liver is seriously affected.
Recently Alexandra spent almost 4 weeks in 3 separate ER visits at the Northwestern hospital most of the time at the intensive care unit. There is no medical treatment other than chemotherapy or radiotherapy but at this point this type of treatment will only do more damage than good. Doctors are giving her 5 months or less.
She already started Vitamin C, IV injections however, the treatment had to be stopped since she got serious infection at the hospital and her kidneys were failing. Last night she was sent home from the hospital and she currently is unable to walk, eat or even talk. Her primary care taker is her sister Bogusia who is taking care of her 24/7, missing work and often have difficulties going to the stores for groceries since both do not have a car. Alexandra was supposed to go to Mexico for IV treatment however, her current condition will not allow her to fly. The treatment cost 5,500 basics for two weeks but it’s just the very basic treatment. She needs to fly there with her sister who is her only family here and will need assistance in every step in her treatment. I only calculated basic therapy needs. I have not included, tickets for both to and from Mexico, an apartment/room for her sister so she can be with/near her, food, transportation etc. Since Ola's life is very fragile (she lost 30lbs she can't eat) she might need more than two weeks’ treatment in Mexico.
Back in April she lost her job. She received only $280 per week only since like two weeks ago, before all this happened, Ola was able to get basic Medicaid (public health insurance) and we all know what that means (not many options, no proper care and limitations in every step she takes). Ola and her sister needs our help besides money if anyone can also arrange driving them to and from the hospital or dr. appointment it will be great help.
At this point, I don't know what will happen in the future, none of us do. What matters the most is that She knows we are with her.
She has done so much for all of us, she is the girl with the Pitbull attitude who will not rest until all is done the way it supposed to be done! She is generous, kind, patient, with big heart and great mind. All we have to do is spread the word and help her to get the treatment she needs the most!
