October 21, Women's Summit: Embracing Our Shared Past to Craft a Unified Future

At the crossroads of our shared history lies the Women's Summit, a gathering that embodies the heartbeats of countless generations of Black and white women. It's more than just a meeting point – it's a testament to the interconnected narratives that have shaped the soul of a nation.

Historically, white women have played varied roles in a unique nexus of gendered disadvantage and racial privilege. At the same time, there were those who, consciously or not, perpetuated systems of racial oppression; others fought alongside Black activists, advocating for abolition, justice, and equality. They recognized a shared struggle, transcending their privilege to seek a world free from racial and gender chains.

Black women, bearing the dual burdens of racism and sexism, have showcased unparalleled resilience. They've navigated a world often dismissive of their worth, yet their spirit remains unbroken. Far from seeking revenge for the trials of slavery, Jim Crow, and systemic prejudice, Black women have consistently championed unity, justice, and a shared humanity.
Yes, there were moments when white women, with the mantle of privilege, were bystanders or even contributors to systems of oppression. Yet, in the shadows and highlights of history, many broke the mold, standing shoulder to shoulder with their Black sisters, advocating for abolition and universal rights. Their legacy reminds us that privilege can ally with justice when acknowledged and used responsibly.

Today, we're presented with a singular challenge and opportunity. Climate change, an unequivocal force, urges humanity to unite, surpass our differences, and act urgently. In this race against time, the privileges and strengths of Black and white communities are not just valuable – they're essential.
When acknowledged and channeled, white privilege can force positive change. The networks, resources, and platforms it offers can be leveraged to amplify the historically muted voices and fast-track the change we seek.

The Black community, tempered by the fires of adversity, brings the gifts of resilience, leadership, and an enduring vision of unity. Their journey from chains to champions is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and a guide for how we can all rise from our lowest points.

This Summit is our canvas. Let's paint a world where white privilege transforms into white responsibility – a responsibility to uplift, amplify, and support. The Women's Summit is not just an event; it's a movement, a catalyst for change. Let Black resilience be the guiding star, a beacon that illuminates the path of unity, showcasing how we turn adversity into strength.

USE OF FUNDS
The RJC is raising funds to help organize and run community-building events in 2024. We are also building a community website to gather, strategize, educate, and develop as allies. The RJC provides tools and knowledge to make all people more resilient in the daily fight against ongoing white supremacy and racial tension. The RJC hosted 12 online events in 2022.

We are also expanding our online video content to educate people about the history of anti-Black racism in America. The RJC provides valuable video content on Youtube that includes carefully sourced historical materials and analysis. Funds will go to better production and editing for higher quality video. RJC will create its first on-demand video course if we raise enough money.

Sign up for the RJC email newsletter or follow RJC on Eventbrite to be notified of future events.
