Rachel's Recovery Fund

Family, friends and anyone else Rachel has touched in her life:

Rachel Petricka is a 25-year-old daughter, sister, girlfriend and friend. By profession, she's a dog trainer/pet sitter at Cool Dog Training, Inc. in Temecula California and is the sweetest, most kind person you'll ever meet. One example of this is when she takes a puppy into her home, at her expense, and trains it to be a service dog and full-time companion for a physically disabled person. So far, she's helped four disabled people regain some independence. But, now, Rachel faces her own challenges.

Recently, she was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease "“ the result of a tick bite more than three-years ago. Chronic Lyme is an extremely painful, debilitating disease that often leaves her bedridden or confined to a wheelchair. The good news is that Rachel WILL recover, but our doctor estimates it could take as long as 2-years.

Rachel's symptoms include sharp, shooting pains traveling to all parts of her body, extreme hot and cold flashes, difficulty breathing, prolonged muscle spasms, excruciating back pain, hypersensitivity to light and never ending headache.

Lyme is a relatively new disease having only been identified within the past forty-years. It's incredibly difficult to diagnose and treat if it isn't caught early because the symptoms vary so much and mimic other chronic diseases such as ALS and Multiple Sclerosis. On top of all that, many doctors in the United States refuse to even acknowledge the existence of Chronic Lyme for fear of misdiagnosis and lawsuits. So, after two months of seeing various specialists and nearly two-weeks in the hospital, it was obvious the medical staff had reached their limits of help for Rachel aside from pumping her full of morphine and other narcotics to treat her excruciating pain.

Lucky for us, we found one of the few Lyme-literate doctors in the country willing to diagnose and treat her; unfortunately, Rachel's medical insurance won't cover medications and treatment from "out-of-network" doctors and we are left to cover the costs ourselves. We have no choice but to continue Rachel's treatment because, at this stage of the disease, stopping treatment could actually be fatal.

The costs of treatment and recovery are expected to accumulate to a much larger amount than her family will be able to afford. If you are able to contribute absolutely anything, whether it's words of encouragement, professional guidance or a monetary contribution, it would be an enormous help toward Rachel's recovery.

100% of the donations received will go directly to Rachel's parents to help pay for the costs of treatment and ongoing care.

We love you Rachel, and we'll do everything we can to give you the best chance at a quick recovery.

Thanks to all of Rachel's friends for helping out in her time of need.
